Q: What is a Voice of God announcer?

A: A Voice of God announcer, often called a VOG, is the off-stage voice you hear introducing speakers, presenters, award recipients and program segments while helping guide the audience through a live event. Because the announcer stays off-stage, the audience can stay focused on the presenters, honorees, video and action in the room. The job is to sound polished, confident and in control while helping keep the event moving smoothly.

Q: Why use a Voice of God announcer at a live event?

A: A professional VOG announcer does more than read introductions. I’m part of the live production team, following the show, taking direction and being ready when what actually happens isn't exactly what was rehearsed.

A presenter runs long. A technical goblin causes a glitch in the video that was supposed to play. The stage isn't quite ready. A script changes at the last minute. I can adjust and help cover those moments smoothly, while keeping the audience's attention on the event instead of what is happening (or not happening) behind the scenes.

Q: What's the difference between a Voice of God announcer and an emcee?

A: The biggest difference is where I am and what you need me to do. As a Voice of God announcer, I'm usually off-stage providing introductions, announcements and transitions. As an emcee or live event host, I'm on stage interacting directly with the audience, presenters and guests. I do both, and some events need a little of each.

Q: Can Voice of God announcements be live or pre-recorded?

A: Yes and...yes. I can provide live Voice of God announcing, pre-recorded event announcements or both. Live announcing gives your production team the flexibility to adjust timing, scripts or cues as the event unfolds, while pre-recorded announcements can be produced in advance and ready to fire exactly when your show caller needs them.

Q: What does an emcee or live event host do?

A: A good emcee keeps the event moving while making sure the audience stays informed, engaged and entertained. As an emcee and live event host, I work within your event script, agenda and run-of-show, collaborating with the producer and production team to introduce speakers, handle transitions and keep the program on track. Having worked alongside production teams at live events for years, I also know that things can change quickly. When they do, I'm there to adapt, support the team and help keep the show moving smoothly.
