RSS Feeds - What, Why and Where!

 WHAT is RSS?

An RSS feed is like your newspaper boy/girl instantly delivering to your computer any information from the web that is only of specific interest to you. Oh yeah, and it's FREE!

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary." It is a format for delivering frequently changing web content. Many news-related sites [Google News, Yahoo News and most newspapers], weblogs [blogs - like our favorite: voxmarketising] and other online publishers syndicate (i.e. make available, offer) their newest web content in the format of an RSS feed to simplify the delivery of their communications. Interested members of their audience or target market, in turn, get the information they have specifically asked for immediately as its published. 

Any time you see the orange symbol on a site (or sometimes they use other colors just for art's sake), that indicates that the information on that page is available as an RSS feed that you can subscribe to for free!

WHY should I be using RSS?

RSS solves a significant problem for people who regularly use the web: time. RSS allows you to easily stay informed, by automatically retrieving the latest content from only the sites you are interested in.

You save time, because with RSS you no longer need to visit each individual site. Instead, program called an RSS Reader does it for you automatically, alerting you to new content.

There's also the added benefit of greater privacy. You don't need to give your email address in order to get the content and updates you want.

For publishers [e.g. us - audio'connell Voice Over Talent], there's the added benefit of not needing to always create an email campaign to communicate something noteworthy to our customers and friends (most of whom are one and the same). When we post a new news item and if you have RSS reader, you will automatically and instantly receive news from audio'connell Voice Over Talent.
